Knowing your configurations

First, to see what your configurations are, do the following:

compose memo to listserv@siu.edu
turn off any "signature" lines
skip the subject line

then type:

query xxx (xxx is the name of the listserv, i.e., HEDIR-L, IBBMR-L)
now, hit send

you should get a memo back shortly highlighting your configurations.

How to Make Changes in Your Mailing System
These are the options...note that in the left hand column is the description, in the right two columns are the options available.
First, you will need to do the following:

compose memo to listserv@siu.edu
turn off any "signature" lines
skip the subject line

then type: set xxx yyy (xxx is the name of the listserv, i.e., HEDIR-L, IBBMR-L; yyy is the action you want it to do...i.e., NOMail)

then type the directions below. Depending upon your system, when you get your query memo back, it should tell you what your configurations are. To change them, note the directions after the table:

Mailing option: Setting this option to Mail indicates that the subscriber will receive mail from the list. NOMail is the complementary command that stops mail but leaves the user subscribed to the list. (NOMail is often a good compromise for users who are leaving the office for vacation or on extended business trips, and who don't want a full mailbox on their return.) Mail NOMail

DIGest/NODIGest: Causes the subscriber to receive one posting per digest cycle (typically daily) rather than individual messages as they are processed by LISTSERV. DIG (receive one posting per day) NODIG (receive memos individually)

Acknowledgment: These command words control the level of acknowledgment the subscriber receives when posting to the list. ACK causes LISTSERV to send a short confirmation message to the subscriber when the post has been received and distributed. NOACK disables the confirmation feature for the subscriber. ACK (to receive an acknow-ledgment) NOACK (to not receive an acknowledgment)

Copy of Memo to Oneself: REPro/NOREPro
This option controls whether or not the subscriber will get a copy of his or her own posts back from the list after they are processed. Generally, if a subscriber's mail program is configured to file copies of the subscriber's outgoing mail, or if the subscriber has one of the acknowledgment options (ACK/MSGack) enabled, this option should be set to NOREPro. If, on the other hand, the subscriber is set to NOACK and doesn't keep a copy of outgoing mail, this option should probably be set to REPro.
REP (to receive copies of one's posting) NOREP (to not receive copies of one's posting)

Let's say that you wanted to change your configurations from a NOREP (you don't get copies of your postings) to that of REP (you want to receive them), and you also want to have an ACK (acknowledgment) of memos sent. Do the following:

To make any change, compose a memo to listserv@siu.edu
skip the subject line
turn off your signature line
in the body of the text, type:

set xxx rep (xxx is the name of the listserv, i.e., HEDIR-L, IBBMR-L)

set xxx ack (xxx is the name of the listserv, i.e., HEDIR-L, IBBMR-L)

then hit send.
You should get a confirmation back shortly indicating a change has been made.
