Tasks for Week 2

  1. Go through the Census Bureau tutorial (click here)...review on how to obtain census data from the world-wide web.
  2. Using Mahoning County, Ohio, Ramsey County, Minnesota, and Kossuth County, Iowa, find the following from these three counties:
    1. overall population
    2. numbers of whites and blacks, males and females
    3. population of each specific age group listed below

Put this information in a spreadsheet format (numbers only).  The spreadsheet can be downloaded here to serve as a guide.

When you have that data, save it and you can email it me as an attachment to:   kittleson@hotmail.com   Please make sure that you include your name in the file that you have saved.

      3.  After completing the above assignment, download the data from each of the three states:

Illinois Data Missouri Data Kentucky Data

This data will serve as the basis for several assignments over the next few weeks.

      4.  Find the three counties that you have been assigned...one from each state.  Take that information and place it into a new spreadsheet.  The new spreadsheet should include the age categories, and the population from each of the three counties you've been assigned.  Once you have completed this, put your name in that file, save it, and send it to me at kittleson@hotmail.com.
